Classic Carnatics to Mesmerising Mass Beats.

Every day I settle down to write the daily post, I begin to wonder what I will be writing about. Had a sumptuous Sunday meal just now J.Well the menu’s a typical telugu  one (keeping in view the number of overseas friends and relatives who read my entries daily i keep away from writing it’s details 😉 )Last night was tough with power cut, but see it is technology again that has saved me .I had my laptop fully charged and the saved playlists saved me.

How time stands still when music takes over....

How time stands still when music takes over....

Music has always been an integral part of my life. And the genre spans over a huge range. Nothing in particular like a favourite artist or band. Most of the times, language is no barrier- Latin beats to carnatic classical, everything entices me.  But ya M S amma’s rendering of the timeless carnatic music  always is a divine solace for me. While I have continued to train myself always in rendering vocal music  I always selected the versions to be either carnatic or telugu light music.

But when it came to something that kept my mood upbeat or lifted my spirits, the choice has always been too shocking for people who know me. To all the readers who are familiar with telugu music my choice of songs always revolves around mass and folk beats.36-24-36 , aakalesthe annam pedtha, and nuv whistle esthe Andhra soda.. J)

It startles me when I hear my peer group speak of Akon , Linking Park and whatever. They never attracted my ears as much as these local “mana” beats attracted my attention. And ya I do listen to foreign bands too 😀 But they are a bit oldies. ABBA and Boney M . Ya! My choice of things has always been different from my counterparts. My friends and relatives always make fun of my choice of music. But I feel music transcends barriers of language, genre and importantly TIME  for me.It is something that makes me forget my worries, soothes my tense nerves and importantly permits me to learn it so that I can sing it to myself whenever I feel like. One reason as to why the typical popular bands and music don’t  appeal to me is, the lack of clarity in music and lyrics.Though all the bands don’t  give music like head banging stuff, I don’t feel relaxed singing a slang filled English number that has more of words that vent out the frustration in the singer than give some solace to the singer. May be the music  can transport me away from my low spirits or something for sometime, but it doesn’t give me any peace of mind.

How singers put in their heart and soul into the song to make it such a great masterpiece itself wonders me. I always feel How time stands still for me when musicz plugged in  !!!

  1. ABBA and Boney M!!! Yaaaaaay!!!
My all time favs are Mamma Mia, Money Money Money, If It Wasn’t For The Nights, Lovelight, I Have A Dream (Love this), The Visitors… ok in short all of them. And oney M.. Ma Baker, Little Drummer Boy etc etc.

But hey apart from Akon and Linkin Park (oh my head hurts too) there are quite a few good artists still.. like Shania Twain (my fav), Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat (try her “Bubbly”)

Ok, I’ve written enough.. but one last question.. wat does “nuv whistle esthe Andhra soda” mean? From the little Telugu that I know, I get the feeling it’s not very sober.. LOL 😉

Nice. Plain theme.. Am trying for a new theme for my ow blog too. But not able to find a better one… :s

Yeah thats perfectly true with the most of the popular music in the present day. Unfortunately not everyone has his/her ear tuned to respond to the good melodic tunes but they are ready to take in smthing familiar and simple.
From my experience (as in from the shows i have attended) neither atif nor strings (along with many others) lack the versitality. There are many indian bands which are amazing and lack the support. There are ‘n’ number of musicians in India either it be classical, jazz, blues , folk or rock , you should just try discovering them. (or on request i can send you a list 😀 )

Music is something that interacts with a person at a much deeper level that is his/her conscious. And as a matter of fact the music helps change the state of mind.

I would differ with someone’s opinion on Akon and linkin Park as amazing. They arent.

By the way i would join u to sing the song “Fernando” which happens to be one of my fav songs.:D
But there are many other such musicians/ bands u might like. Just look around and expand your musical horizons which as a musician/singer might help you in a long run.

As far as i am concerned i could never get to love/understand the songs u have mentioned.(probably the frequencies dint match.. thats a geeks answer to almost everything.:P) . But i still love those brilliant songs by ilayaraja , mahadevan, ch rajeswara rao etc. and their lyrics actually were worth remembering :). and that particular diction and that poetry is just missing. i have rarely seen any good lyricist after sirivennala and veturi.(though veturi’s last few songs werent impressive either.) same is the case with hindi, that idiot z.. akhtar is writing lamer and lamer songs everyday.

It still makes me wonder how the music director nor the singer put an objection to such lyrics.

I would recommend the the following albums of Pink Floyd(1972 Obscured by the clouds, 1973 Dark side of the moon, 1975 Wish you were here(my fav album , all time), 1994 Division bell and another song echoes from their 1971 album) . Some of the brilliant lyrics ever and awesome music.
this is the song wish you were here

Neil Young, he is rated the most brilliant lyricist ever apart from his good music. and then there is bob dylan.

I can go on but i shall stop it here.
